Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s birthday is today and in celebration why not check out one of these four first editions of The Song of Hiawatha from 1855. You can see an astounding Bayntun binding with an inlaid porcelain portrait of Longfellow, as well as one with a regular library binding, and even one with a letter from Longfellow inside.

    So lovely!

I absolutely adore the U Iowa Special Collections blog and department in general. We’re blessed at Iowa with such an amazing collection and I think it’s fantastic that they’re on tumblr. Libralthinking is one of the special collections librarians (she does post some fandom related things here and there) and you should definitely be following her on here as well, they’re two of my all time favorite blogs. If you love anything academic, witty, old, or literature related, seriously consider following both of them.

In which we receive ALL THE LOVE.

The University of Iowa Special Collection tumblr knows what’s up.
